The Family Ride, hosted by Arthur Morgan School, is back by popular demand!
The route is through the beautiful and relatively flat Pensacola Valley. There will be two well supplied rest stops at mile 8 and 11.5, plus roving SAG support vehicles. This out and back course allows for many turn around options, so ride as far as you like. The first rest stop will have refreshments and facilities, while the second rest stop will have refreshments only. The second rest stop is the ‘official’ turn-around point. See the Family Ride route map for more route details.
What to expect the day of the ride:
Before the Metric start time (9:00am), Family riders may join the cycling circus on the Town Square, but at start time you need to be positioned in the back of the pack. When the Family riders get to the start line we will stop for a brief review of ‘riding the road’ rules, answer any questions, then have an escorted start through Burnsville. The route goes down East Main St., turns right on Pensacola Rd., crosses Hwy 19 (with help from NC Highway Patrol) and then proceeds into the Pensacola Valley, along the Cane River using Hwy 197S. This route is suitable for beginners (children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult cyclist).
Registration fees: $15 if received by April 10th / $17 after April 10th. Go to the Registration page for more details.
Please visit our Post-Ride page to learn all the cool stuff available after the ride. Here’s a sneak preview: Mexican meal, showers, massage, sponsor booths . . .
